Questions We Hear A Lot
Four questions we answer every week. Straight answers, no sales pitch.
For trucking: your loss history, how long you have been in business, your drivers’ experience, what you haul, and how far you run. Radius matters more than most people expect — a 200-mile operation and a 48-state operation are different risks even with identical trucks. Home and auto work the same way: what is being insured, where it sits, and what the record looks like. We go through each of these with you, because a change in one can move the price more than shopping ever will.
The three things that move price the most are all slow: build a clean loss history, stay continuously insured, and keep experienced drivers. Three years of continuous coverage is the threshold where whole markets open up that will not quote you before then. In the short term there are levers we can pull — deductibles, limits, paying annually rather than monthly — and we will walk through them with you. What we will not do is strip out coverage you need in order to show you a smaller number.
Almost never the truck. It is usually years in business, loss history, driving records, radius, or what is being hauled — and often the two policies are not the same policy at all. Bring us the other quote and we will read it against yours, line by line. A cheaper policy that excludes what you actually do is not cheaper; it just costs you later instead of now.
Part of it may be you — a claim, a ticket, a new driver, more miles. Part of it is not: carriers reprice entire segments after a bad year, and repair and medical costs feed straight into premiums. When it is the market and not you, we re-shop it. That is the reason to use a broker instead of a single company.
